WHAT WE DO / We create beautiful, bespoke and distinctive structures and buildings of all types. Much of our work is done using locally sourced and sustainable natural materials. We have our own woodland of 100 acres where we harvest, mill and process much of the timber used in our work. WHAT WE DO

We can build with many different types of materials, but we prefer the feel and look of natural ones.

Recent projects include an outdoor entertainment area next to a converted chapel using an oak frame, slate roof and hardwood decking; a timber framed offices and packing shed for a community vegetable farm; and a timber porch for a private house.

Currently, we are part way through the conversion of a dilapidated 18th century stone barn into a habitable annexe.

All our design and construction work is carried out in house, and the Deepdean partners are always on hand to oversee, and discuss the project at any stage.

Please get in touch to find out more.

THE APSE

The Apse is built from larch, sweet chestnut and hazel, all of which were grown in Warmhill Woods, Deepdean, Ross-on-Wye on the edge of the Forest of Dean, close to the Herefordshire border. The timber was milled on site and then processed and prepared by traditional methods of mortise and tenon joints using hardwood pegs, by local craftsman. The Apse is an original in-house design featuring collared arches and based on the ecclesiastical name for an arched or domed recess in a church.

The roof is reed thatch with a straw ridge and was thatched by a second-generation master thatcher, Tom Walden who thatched two of the Welsh cottages in the museum in Cardiff and is based in Holme Lacy, Hereford. The Apse is on show and available to view at Leaf Creative in a shared venture with Deepdean Design to produce innovative and original products produced from local materials by local craftsmen.

“We are exceptionally proud of The Apse here at Leaf Creative. A beautiful, hand crafted timber house built from local wood that is a star show piece here In Gloucestershire. It was a pleasure to work with Lucian & John from Deepdean Design, they are both incredibly professional and also very knowledgeable on all things wood built. Highly recommended to anyone wanting a timber structure!”
